Item Selling Feature

Problem Statement

There was no efficient way of disposing of surplus equipment or unwanted furniture. This led to players feeling frustrated.

Players also gave feedback about how the game felt grindy and repetitive.

Why?

Besides the Blacksmith, players can obtain equipment such as armour and weapons from dungeons. As players tend to stick to a build they like, this can quickly fill their inventory and chests with unequipped items.

As for furniture, the players can acquire it from the Carpenter. The shop unlocks new catalogues whenever the player reaches a higher restaurant reputation level and defeating a dungeon's final boss for the first time.

Over time, the players may want to replace their older furniture with better-looking ones or ones that provide a specific buff. With no way of discarding unwanted furniture, the players will have to cycle through a long list before being able to find what they want. This is even more prominent when playing on a controller or Nintendo Switch.

Business Challenges

  • Reduce the amount of new text entries, art assets, visual and sound effects required.

  • The feature must be compatible with platforms like PC, Consoles, Switch, and potentially Mobile Devices.

  • The feature should not heavily alter the existing core game loop and the game balance.

The Solution

Allow the selling of equipment and furniture to the Carpenter and Blacksmith.

Players get coins in exchange for selling them.

This becomes another form of income to help with the main story quest.

Impact

  • Players can sell their furniture and equipment to the Carpenter and Blacksmith for coins.

  • This became another income stream for the players, especially if they frequently visit the dungeons.

  • Reduced the number of complaints about having no way to deal with extra furniture and equipment to 0.
